KIss Or Fight?

Synopsis : Kiss Or Fight aka Bijo ka Yajuu (Japanese TV Drama VCD)

After graduating from the Tokyo University School of Law, Makoto Tamiya goes on to Harvard University where she earns an MBA. She later works at one of the "big three" networks in the United States as a news reporter. While covering a story on an international symposium in Paris, Makoto is scouted to work for JBC Television in Japan. The news producer at JBC wants to use Makoto to help raise low viewer ratings. He persuades her to work for him for an absurdly high salary, and also gives her the right to hire who she needs. While Makoto is being brought in to be the savior of the News Department, one man gets transferred from the Variety Department. His name is Hiromi Nagase. Since joining JBC Television, all he has done is variety programs. Although Hiromi has done everything he possibly could to ensure his programs are a success, his boss just could not could take any more of Hiromi's behavior which ranged from getting caught up in scandals with female television personalities, punching-out assistant directors, to taking kickbacks from production companies. His boss finally tells Hiromi to make a fresh start in the "hard nosed" News Department. So now the News Department has Makoto who thinks high ratings are the meaning of life, and Hiromi who values the success of a program as just a tool for the full enjoyment of life. These two totally different personalities mix it up and somehow reach a mutual understanding, creating a delightful "light comedy" for adults.

Recently she realizes that most of the temporary and contracted workers’ goals are to find an elite male employee within the company to marry. After finishing the round, Eriko’s husband comes to pick her up, and Naoko is surprised when she sees his face. Eriko’s husband is the handsome man who saved her from the drunk man. Naoko’s heart starts pounding, and she can’t help but envy Eriko’s happy life.

Hotelier

Hotelier featured Bae Yong Jun, Song Yun Ah and Kim Seong Woo.

Bae Yong Jun's role as a Merger and Acquisition Specialist fits him as the role called for a handsome, fit, rich, reserved and protective portrayal. Yong Jun's acting in this drama was not as good as his portrayal as Jung san in another Korean drama, "Winter Sonata", in 2002. There are certain times you can almost sense that in Hotelier, he was struggling to act! I understand from another site that the role of Shin Dong Hyuk, the M&A Specialist from USA, was the first role that he took up after giving the entertainment world a rest for 3 years to pursue his universitiy studies. It was reported that he took up personal training in the US to polish his English in order to play the role of Dong Hyuk. Unfortunately, his English still came out "HORRIBLE" in the drama. Most of the time, when he spoke English, it was inaudible and faint. Nevertheless, he is a good method actor and did justice to the role of Shin Dong Hyuk, whose persistence in the pursuit of Song Yun Ah's character "Seo Jin Hyung" did materialise into success in the end.

Song Yun Ah's portrayal of Seo Jin Hyung was VERY GOOD and her acting won her the best actress award for this particular drama. Seo Jin Hyung was a manager in Hotel Seoul, a hotel in financial trouble, and she was a very dedicated worker whose untiring work, sweet smiles and personality made every other staff happy to work in the hotel. Her kindness and gentleness really shone through and she had a really soft heart, albeit a tough exterior (sometimes a lot of us can testify to having as well).

Seo Jin Hyung was a very innocent and naive girl sometimes and this was seen in the way that she did not grasp that Shin Dong Hyuk sent her 300 roses because he wanted to pursue her. She in turn thought that the 300 roses were a way of thanking her for her tour guide services rendered to him the day before! Her innocence was also portrayed in the way she ate her food (the scenes in the noodle house and McDonald's were really memorable).

Kim Seong Woo is a polished actor. He is a real natural in front of the screen. His portrayal as Tae Jun, the Hotel Seoul's General Manager is a perfect fit for him and he acted as the ex-boyfriend of Seo Jin Hyung. It is obvious even from the beginning that he carried a torch for Jin Hyung, but he lacked courage to express his feeling and did not do much to show his affection. In the end, he lost his love to Shin Dong Hyuk. His character of Tae Jun was the opposite of Shin Dong Hyuk. Where Tae Jun was unable to profess his love to Jin Hyung, Dong Hyuk was very vocal and expressed his love to Jin Hyung repeatedly! Tae Jun left Korea for USA when his job was on the line after a scandal and had no intention of returning, but Dong Hyuk came back for Jin Hyung after being forced to leave Korea.

The other supporting characters were equally good and well portrayed, and the whole drama really showed the workings of a hotel and how the people behind the scenes work together through thick and thin to make the hotel what it is.

Sweet 18

Title: 낭랑18세 / Nang Rang 18 Seh
Also known as: Little Bride / 18 Year Old Bride
Episodes: 16
Broadcast network: KBS
Broadcast period: 2004-01-19 to 2004-03-09

Synopsis

The concept of an arranged marriage is often difficult to accept, especially amongst less traditional adolescents today. Sweet 18 (Nang Rang 18 Seh) covers this very premise and the story begins when Kwon Hyuk-joon’s grandfather, the head of the traditional Kwon family agrees to an arranged marriage between his grandson (Lee Dong Gun) and Yoon Jung-sook (Han Ji Hye) when Yoon Jung-sook is born. 18 years later, the two families lose contact because soon after the contract is signed, Jung-sook’s family encounters financial issues and is forced to run away.

Meanwhile, Jung-sook has grown up to be a rebellious and strong-willed girl who just wants to live her life as she sees fit. With little aspirations, she is the direct foil of her achievement-bound counterpart, Hyuk-joon. When the two meet each other, they clash horribly; Jung-sook thinks her fiancee is nothing but boring, and Hyuk-joon believes Jung-sook to be nothing but an immature child. The rest of the series follows their life living together as a couple, and the obstacles they are faced with. When Hyuk-joon’s first love reappears and wants to claim Hyuk-joon for herself (despite the fact that he’s married), who will Hyuk-joon choose? His first love Ga-young, or immature spunky Jung-sook?
